Abstract:

CRANIO-SACRAL THERAPY (CST) is an established complementary modality. A psychosomatic clinic in Norway has included CST into its multimodal treatment approach for severely traumatized patients. THE AIM of this study was to investigate and describe the indications for the use of craniosacral therapy within trauma therapy. METHODS: Semi-structured individual interviews (n = 8) and one focus group interview. Qualitative data was analysed by applying content analysis. RESULTS: A holistic treatment approach was used, using different treatment techniques to access emotions and traumas. Patients with severe physical symptoms were considered to be less available for cognitive therapy. Holistic treatments aimed at reducing physical complaints thereby improving cognitive and emotional resources. The psychotherapists found that emotions and traumata were more accessible after CST.
