Abstract:

This pilot study investigated the measureable difference between the two cranial techniques CV4, EV4 and placebo-technique via biofeedback-system. Hypothesis 1. « different technique – same effect? » 2. « different technique – different effect? » Questions Difference between CV4, EV4 and placebo? Technique-specific characteristics? Parasympathetic or sympathetic effect? Parameters Evaluation of: skinconductivity, skin-temperature, pulse-rate, breathing-frequency and breathing-amplitude. Method The techniques‘ sequence order was determined prior to the beginning of the study, they were made anonymous and in closed envelopes. After one week interval (same week-day, same time) and a preceding rest phase 12 healthy subjects ( 8 men, 4 women) were submitted to one of the two cranial techniques or the placebo-technique. They had to fulfill the exclusion and inclusion criterias. Result The subjects course measurement showed person-specific responses, for each person an individual pattern of reactions and signs of homöostatic effects. Each parameter showed in his descriptive statistic (8 intervals) and in his course measurement subtile technique-specific differences between CV4, EV4 and placebo, especially CV4 presented characteristic signs. Based on the inference statistics (3 intervals) there were no significant differences between the CV4, EV4 and placebo-technique. But over the time course, there existed significantly even high significantly changes in all parameters (CV4, EV4 and placebo). Consequence: The results of this study strengthend the assumption of the harmonizing influence on the autonomic centres, especially through CV4. The comparison with the placebo-technique underlines the existence of an effect by the cranial techniques.
