Abstract:

Research Question: How do patients perceive an initial osteopathic case history taking, based on a holistic approach, as taught at the Vienna School of Osteopathy? Aim of the study: To capture the subjective experiences, expectations and emotions of patients during the initial osteopathic case history taking. Methods: Semi-structured interviews with ten patients who have experienced an initial osteopathic case history taking. The analysis was conducted using Mayring`s qualitative content analysis with the Qcamap app. Results: 70% of the participants reported that they found the case history taking unexpectedly profound. For 80% of the patients, the primary wish was to discover the cause of their problem during a detailed case history taking. 80% were satisfied with the communication style. Dissatisfaction was relatively low and mostly related to the type of questioning. Most of the interviewees felt understood because a basis of trust was established, even though 40% were not willing to disclose intimate details. 90% of the respondents felt adequately participated in the conversation, although 40% only wanted to be informed and not involved in the decision-making processes. 90% of the respondents considered the duration of the conversation appropriate. For 90% of the patients, the case history taking promoted self-reflection, which was seen as part of the healing process. Conclusion: Patients should be better prepared for the structure and depth of the questioning. Regarding participation, the individual situation should be considered, as not everyone wants to be involved in decision-making processes. Sufficient information and equal standing, by contrast, are considered essential. A comprehensive case history taking should be viewed as part of the healing process, as it contributes to understanding the complaints and to self-reflection.

Forschungsfrage: Wie nehmen Patient*innen eine auf einem ganzheitlichen Denkansatz gestützte osteopathische Erstanamnese, wie sie an der Wiener Schule für Osteopathie gelehrt wird, wahr? Ziel der Studie: Erfassen der subjektiven Erfahrungen, Erwartungen und Emotionen von Patient*innen während der osteopathischen Erstanamnese. Methode: Leitfadengestützte Interviews mit zehn Patient*innen, die eine osteopathische Erstanamnese durchlaufen haben. Die Auswertung erfolgte durchdie qualitative Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring mithilfe der App Qcamap. Ergebnisse: 70% der nBefragten gaben an, dass sie die Anamnese als unerwartet tief empfanden. Für 80% der Patient*innen war der größte Wunsch durch eine ausführliche Anamnese die Ursache ihres Problems zu erfahren. 80% waren mit der Gesprächsführung zufrieden. Die Unzufriedenheit war eher gering und betraf am meisten die Art der Befragung. Der Großteil der Interviewten fühlte sich verstanden, da eine Vertrauensbasis vorhanden war, obwohl 40% nicht bereit waren intime Details preiszugeben. 90% der Befragten fühlten sich beim Gespräch ausreichend partizipiert, wobei 40% nur informiert und nicht in die Entscheidungsprozesse miteinbezogen werden möchten. 90% der Befragten fanden die Gesprächsdauer angemessen. Bei 90% der Patient*innen förderte die Anamnese die Selbstreflexion, was als Teil des Heilungsprozesses angesehen wurde. Schlussfolgerung: Patient*innen sollten auf den Gesprächsablauf und die Tiefe der Befragung besser vorbereitet werden. Bezüglich Partizipation ist die individuelle Situation zu berücksichtigen, da nicht alle in Entscheidungsprozesse miteinbezogen werden möchten. Ausreichende Information und Gleichberechtigung sind hingegen sehr wesentlich. Eine umfassende Anamnese ist als Bestandteil des Heilungsprozesses zu sehen, da sie zum Verständnis der Beschwerden und zur Selbstreflexion beiträgt.
