Abstract:

Abstract This study deals with the issue of what patients expect in the osteopathic dinic. It is mainly a question of what the patients expect from the treatment and their expectations conceming the osteopaths. The reasons why a person decides to let her-/himself be treated by an osteopath and why patients choose an particular osteopath will also be discussed. In a qualitative manner eight patients were interviewed using an interview guide. The results of the interviews were assigned to different categories. The categories are about the way, the patients have been gone until they decide to choose osteopathic treatment, which criteria are important for the patient, when choosing an osteopath and the main question, their expectations regarding the osteopathic treatment. The study shows that patients mainly seek out an osteopath which has been recommended by other people. They look for a gentle and constant solution for their problem, through osteopathic therapy and also advice on avoiding making mistakes in everyday life, so that they may be able to eliminate the cause of their problem. In order to receive ideal treatment quality, patients expect their therapists to have a good education. They put less emphasis on brand names and titles of the osteopath. The osteopaths' sympathy and friendliness are perceived as being important, and a friendly fumished treatment room is considered to be important, in order to relax whilst having treatment.
