Abstract:

The movement-index (IMov) represents a formal concept addressing the analysis of arthrokinematic forms of movement. It is suggested as a further possibility for a biomechanical description of the dysfunction. Under physiological conditions joints show arthrokinematic phenomena like gliding and roll-gliding. Pure rolling, translation and decoaptation/coaptation as well as changes of the ratio within roll-gliding may indicate a dysfunction. Via the movement-index these forms of movement can be described by using the interrelation between the centre of rotation, the contact point and the centre of curvature.
