Abstract:

Why biomechanics in osteopathic education? In order to answer this question reasonably, specific nature and limits of biomechanics have to be considered. Biomechanical research is fundamental research where biological systems are investigated under a mechanical perspective. Since its objective is given in life's complexity, processes cannot be computed with the same certainty as with unanimated matter. There is always a remaining rest of relatively big unpredictability. Something like a biomechanical law therefore is paradoxical. Biomechanical research of biomechanical models might be helpful in clinical decision-making. Furthermore in many cases they implicitly refer to the complexity and individuality of life.
