Abstract:

It is more important than ever for radiology residency program directors and faculty members to be familiar with osteopathic medicine. The number of United States (US) osteopathic physicians has increased nearly 300% since 1990, and today in the US there are approximately 30,000 osteopathic medical students, 23,000 residents and fellows, and 120,000 osteopathic physicians. Approximately 1 in 4 US medical students is now attending one of the 38 colleges of osteopathic medicine in the US, which are located in 33 states. In years to come, osteopathic graduates applying to radiology programs will almost certainly increase. This article provides a concise overview of osteopathic medicine.
