Abstract:

Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a significant component of the first and second year osteopathic medical student didactic curriculum; however, only some students go on to use OMT in their third and fourth year clinical rotations and beyond. Researchers interested in learning why some osteopathic medical students use OMT while others do not surveyed osteopathic medical students at Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacifi c (COMP) regarding their use of OMT. COMP (class of 2009) students were surveyed about their clinical experiences using OMT before and during their core rotations. Their responses indicated that early clinical exposure to OMT makes students more likely to perform OMT on clinical rotations.
