Abstract:

Low back pain is a difficult entity to properly diagnose. Appropriate and cost effective treatment requires an accurate diagnosis. The osteopathic approach to low back pain is inclusive of the complex interrelationships between structure and function. Treatment methods that conservatively restore myofascial, ligamentous, and articular integrity may reduce the incidence of failed low back pain. By recognizing the anatomical and physiological alterations that give rise to these dysfunctions, the application of osteopathic manipulative treatment will greatly improve treatment outcome and the patients quality of life.
