Abstract:

Osteoporosis is a condition of growing concern in all areas of healthcare, with osteopathic practice no exception. Allied health clinicians and other manual/physical practitioners are well placed to play a role in prevention, early detection and intervention in these patients, as well as in ongoing fall and fracture prevention. This masterclass aims to provide a clinical guide to the management of osteoporosis, with a focus on the role of the allied health clinician in its diagnosis and ongoing treatment. Specifically, it will cover key clinical risk factors, referral guidelines and recommendations for management, to allow for confident, evidence-informed management of these patients in practice. We propose that empowering clinicians with the clinical knowledge to provide support in the management of chronic musculoskeletal diseases such as osteoporosis will advance patient care and outcomes both now and into the future.

(translated by Ostlib): Osteoporose ist ein Thema, das in allen Bereichen des Gesundheitswesens zunehmend an Bedeutung gewinnt, und die Osteopathie bildet dabei keine Ausnahme. Medizinische Fachkräfte und andere manuelle/physikalische Therapeuten sind gut aufgestellt, um bei der Prävention, Früherkennung und Intervention bei diesen Patienten sowie bei der laufenden Sturz- und Frakturprävention eine Rolle zu spielen. Diese Masterclass zielt darauf ab, einen klinischen Leitfaden für die Behandlung von Osteoporose zu bieten, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der Rolle der medizinischen Fachkräfte bei der Diagnose und laufenden Behandlung liegt. Insbesondere werden wichtige klinische Risikofaktoren, Überweisungsrichtlinien und Empfehlungen für die Behandlung behandelt, um eine sichere, evidenzbasierte Behandlung dieser Patienten in der Praxis zu ermöglichen. Wir sind der Meinung, dass die Befähigung von Ärzten mit klinischem Wissen zur Unterstützung bei der Behandlung chronischer Muskel-Skelett-Erkrankungen wie Osteoporose die Patientenversorgung und die Ergebnisse sowohl jetzt als auch in Zukunft verbessern wird.
