Abstract:

This article focuses on the sensomotoric development of the child in the different life stages from pregnancy to adolescence. For the embryonal, fetal, umbilical, oral, anal or musculoskelettal, urogenital or phallic, genital or oedipal stage as well as the latency and adolescence stage the proper development of body, spirit and soul are discribed from the osteopathic point of view. For each stage several aspects are mentioned, which contribute to an optimal development or to the development of disorders. Collateral possible approaches and treatment techniques are recommended to the osteopath as well as support for the parents is imparted. Because the information about all developmental stages, genetic and sociocultural aspects as well as all experience and traumata are stored within the body, the osteopath is able to get in contact with the distinct developmental stages and the inner child of the adult patient. He should consider and examine all traumata the inner child has gone through, to enable the adult to regain all necessary energy he needs to maintain his health.
